Athens: 6 Days in the Birthplace of Democracy

Arrive at Athens Airport and enjoy a private transfer to your hotel in the city center. Check-in at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

This tour reveals the contrasts that make Athens a fascinating city. As you drive along Herod Atticus Street, see the Evzones in their traditional uniforms and the Presidential Palace.

On the way to the Acropolis, pass by Hadrian’s Arch and visit the Temple of Olympian Zeus. You’ll also make a brief stop at the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.

At the Acropolis, marvel at the architectural masterpieces from the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the Parthenon—described as the “harmony between material and spirit” that “brings order to the mind.” Complete your tour with a visit to the Acropolis Museum, where the ancient history of Athens is brought to life.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day at leisure to explore Athens at your own pace.

Travel through the fertile plains of Boeotia, passing the historic town of Thebes—famed for the tragedy of King Oedipus—as well as Levadia and Arachova, where you’ll enjoy a short stop on the way back. Arrive at Delphi, considered the center of the ancient world—the “Omphalos” or “Navel of the Earth”—whose influence reached far beyond the Greek world.

Set against the stunning slopes of Mount Parnassus, the site includes the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo. Explore the Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo, and the Delphi Museum, which houses iconic artifacts like the bronze Charioteer and the statue of the famous athlete Aghias.

Lunch will be served in the modern village of Delphi, after which you’ll return to Athens via the same route.
